CalGreen Earns GuideStar's "Gold" Certification!

Not even one year old, the California Green Academy obtains GuideStar’s second highest honor for transparency, openness, and board governance.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple-Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (CalGreen) is proud to announce obtainment of “Gold” certification by GuideStar, the world’s largest information source for nonprofit organizations. GuideStar’s certification levels–bronze, silver, gold, and platinum–are earned by the degree of administrative and financial transparency, openness and best practices adoption, as well as, an organization’s board governance.

“Since day one, CalGreen has made it the directive to conduct our affairs in the most transparent, open, and accountable ways possible, and GuideStar’s Gold certification reaffirms this directive of open governance,” stated CalGreen Board Chair, Miguel E. Del Mundo. “This is where our staff’s background in public service has payed-off; we are absolutely dedicated to open governance and administration.”

CalGreen is currently developing further measures for board governance and accountability, as well as, planning to implement greater ‘sunshine’ policies, such as document retention and whistleblower protections. These efforts will better prepare the organization for potential ‘platinum’ certification–GuideStar’s highest honor, and available to organizations in their second year of operations.

“We [CalGreen] are actually in a minority of nonprofits who place their Articles of Information, Bylaws, registration paperwork, Form 990, and other important local, state, and federal documents online, available for anyone worldwide to see,” remarked Bob Brodie, board member and Treasurer. “For us, this is just what we do; we are a ‘public charity,’ so the public should know how we operate.”
