CalGreen is on Cloud Nine, Thanks to Prop 6
Voters overwhelmingly support safety, sustainability, and the facts; reject the lies and fear mongering.
SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), and its sustainable transportation program TransportiCA, are incredibly proud voters resoundingly defeated Proposition (“Prop”) 6, preferring sustainable and safe transportation, well above the numerous lies and fright. CalGreen determined the proposition, “an unparalleled attack on transportation safety, especially for public transportation riders and transit-dependent communities,” as well as, “an inherently well-funded political assault on the environment.”
“CalGreen could not be prouder of California’s voters, who undoubtedly read and embraced the facts, opposing this incredibly dangerous and irresponsible proposition. As I have said before, Prop 6 was based on fear, hyperbole, unsubstantiated costs, and some facts that had nothing do with SB1, with arguments for repeal easily invalidated by SB1’s existing statutory language, Article XIX of California’s Constitution, and Prop 69 from the June primary,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED).
Prop 6 was meant to repeal the “Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017” (“Senate Bill 1”), generating $54 billion for transportation investment over the next decade, while also dedicating sizeable and historic funding to active and sustainable transportation. In addition to SB1’s repeal, Prop 6 would have been a massive job killer, eliminating an estimated 68,000+ jobs, and an annual economic impact of $18.3 billion–immediately with its passage. Further, 6,500 local transportation improvement and safety projects–all currently underway–would be halted directly by Caltrans and local authorities, statewide, with additional funding cut by the California Transportation Commission.
CalGreen is especially thankful for the hard work and nonstop dedication of No on Prop 6 campaign workers and volunteers, in addition to, the unwavering leadership from organizations as the California Transit Association, California Professional Firefighters, Alliance for Jobs, Transportation California, MoveLA, League of California Cities, California Chamber of Commerce, and other coalition members.
