CalGreen to Celebrate "Human Rights Day" and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights&#39

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”) will be reporting live today, from San Francisco–birthplace of the United Nations, honoring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ (“Declaration”) 70th anniversary.

Day-long festivities celebrating the U.N.’s landmark Declaration will be overseen by the United Nations Association (“UNA”)–San Francisco Chapter, with the support of UNA Chapters from Marin County, San Diego, and Beverly Hills; in partnership with American Legion Post 315; the U.N.s’ Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights; as well as, U.C. Berkeley School of Law’s Human Rights Center. Further, program sponsors include the Consulate General of Switzerland, the Association of Junior Leagues International, and the League of Women Voters of San Francisco.

Adopted at Paris’ Palais de Chaillot by the recently formed U.N. General Assembly (10 December 1948), Resolution 217.A (the Declaration) is, “a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed…as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations” (UN). Annually, the 10th of December is observed as “Human Rights Day,” and there will be an official event in New York.

CalGreen is incredibly proud to celebrate “Human Rights Day” and the Declaration’s 70th anniversary, as the document’s 30 Articles complement CalGreen’s mission of, “promoting systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line in business, energy, and transport.” CalGreen’s Board recently approved the Declaration’s full integration into all governance and administration, further establishing CalGreen as a ‘global citizen.’

Today’s San Francisco Human Rights Day and 70th anniversary events occur from 12:00-21:00 PST, taking place at the War Memorial Veterans Building. (Registration is required.) CalGreen will be reporting live online, and on Twitter @CalGreenAcademy, and videos of the festivities will be posted on UNA-SF’s YouTube channel. For more information, please visit UNA-SF’s website, or the U.N.’s official website.
