CalGreen Earns GuideStar's "Platinum" Certification

Less than two years old, the California Green Academy obtains GuideStar’s highest honor for organizational transparency, ethics, and board governance, among other protocols.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”) is proud to have obtained GuideStar’s platinum certification for its commitment to excellency regarding board governance, administrative matters, and program execution.

GuideStar is the world’s largest information source for nonprofit organizations, and is long considered an authority in oversight and best practices for the social and academic sectors. Additionally, GuideStar’s certification levels–bronze, silver, gold, and platinum–are earned by the degree of administrative and financial transparency, openness and best practices, as well as, an organization’s board governance and administration.

“CalGreen is, as always, incredibly proud of our platinum certification, and we have made sure the practices and systems developed for certification remain memorialized in our governing documents, as well as, embedded in our board, executive, and programmatic actions. While it may be easy to ‘rest upon our laurels,’ now in our second year, we aim to continue our path toward excellence, going above-and-beyond such requirements,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer.

“Given GuideStar’s ample educational materials for developing strategic and fundamental practices and policies, and CalGreen’s history of going far-and-above what is suggested and/or even required in affairs of transparency, I am confident CalGreen’s organizational development will continue even further, far-and-beyond platinum certification,” said Greg Finkelstein, CalGreen’s Chief Ethics Officer.

The California Green Academy is a domestic, 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 82-0784342), recognized by the IRS, and California’s Franchise Tax Board and Registry of Charitable Trusts.
