CalGreen Launches Nonprofit Sector UN-SDG Survey*

With the increasing importance of achieving all 17 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, CalGreen is exploring ways to increase the nonprofit sector’s SDG education and implementation.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”) has launched a new online survey, inquiring about the nonprofit sector’s exposure to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”), and how nonprofits can increase their SDG education, in time, possibly adopting/implementing them. Following the historic advancements from the eight U.N. Millennium Development Goals, on 25 September 2015, all 193 U.N. member states adopted the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” with the hopes of, “provid[ing] a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity, for people and the planet, now and into the future” (KP). “Because of the nonprofit sector’s extremely cooperative and partnership-based nature, most nonprofit organizations are already carrying-out the work of two-to-three of the SDGs, and may not even know it. With CalGreen’s research and survey, and the introduction of our ‘Three-Tiered Model’ and its collaborative process, CalGreen is letting the sector know the SDGs are not some foreign ideal, but rather, a domestic, personal, and time-sensitive reality,” remarked Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED).

CalGreen’s research and survey seeks to develop more effective outreach sources for SDG education, as well as, better understand what incentives can transform and hasten the sector’s adoption/implementation, therefore accomplishing the SDGs, by the 2030 timeline.
