CalGreen Affirms its Support for the World Health Organization (WHO)

While any organization has its shortcomings and room for improvement, there is no other intergovernmental body ready to serve and coordinate the world’s COVID-19 response.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–Because of its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), proudly supports the vital work of the World Health Organization (“WHO”), and at such a critical time of global coordination and action. Simply put, there is no other intergovernmental body, with the expertise and impact, to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. In a poll conducted last month by the Better World Campaign, 67% of American respondents believe it is critical for a global approach in addressing COVID-19; 72% of American respondents trust WHO with leading this coordination; 75% of American respondents find the U.S. should cooperate more with the global community, with future health crises; as well as, there being overwhelming support from Republicans (80%) and Democrats (88%), favoring more U.S./global support, for the current pandemic. “Potentially withdrawing over half-a-billion dollars in Congressionally-appropriated funding, amidst a global pandemic–not seen in most of our lifetimes, is not only patently ridiculous, but gravely detrimental. COVID-19 knows nothing of national boundaries and sovereignty; global coordination is critically needed now, more than ever, and that coordination is far more effective and lasting, under WHO’s structure and leadership,” remarked Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (ED). Further international information regarding COVID-19–including public advice and technical guidance, can be accessed on WHO’s COVID-19 website. Additionally, tax-deductible donations can be made safely and securely online, to the COVID-Solidarity Response Fund; all donations will be allocated by global medical need, and pursuant to WHO’s Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (13 April).
